Requirements out of Excel

Paste your Excel spec. Get a traced V in 2 minutes.

Copy the rows from your spreadsheet. NodeLynx reads the IDs, levels and parent columns, draws every trace link and shows what is not covered yet.

How it works

  1. Copy your rowsSelect the rows in Excel or Google Sheets, header included, and paste them. Or drop a CSV or XLSX file.
  2. Check the columnsNodeLynx recognises ID, level, requirement text and parent columns, whatever you called them. Change any match in one click.
  3. See the VNeeds on the left, tests on the right, every link drawn. Anything without a parent or a test shows up in amber.

What your spreadsheet cannot do

Trace both waysFrom a stakeholder need down to the test that proves it, and back up again. Many-to-many, without lookup formulas.
Show the impact of a changeEdit one requirement and every linked requirement and test is flagged for review.
Review and baselineAsk a colleague to review, discuss in comments, then freeze a baseline and compare it with today.
Write it rightLive checks against EARS patterns and INCOSE-inspired rules while you type.

Your columns, as they are

  • Any IDs: SYS-012 is kept, outline numbers like 3.2.1 or REQ_12 get a NodeLynx ID and keep their links.
  • Levels such as Need, System, Subsystem and Test, or Stakeholder and Verification.
  • Parent IDs separated by commas, so one requirement can serve several needs.
  • Up to 1,000 rows per import. Multi-line cells and accented characters come through intact.
  • No header row? NodeLynx guesses the columns from the values.

Questions

Do I need to restructure my spreadsheet first?

No. Only the requirement text is required. Add an ID column and a parent column and NodeLynx draws the trace links too. Formula cells should be pasted as values.

Which columns does NodeLynx understand?

ID, level or type, requirement text, parent or traces to, and optionally name, description, status, priority, owner, folder, verification method, test result, rationale and source.

Where is my data kept?

As a guest, everything stays in your own browser until you sign in. Signed-in workspaces are stored in Cloudflare's Western Europe region. Spreadsheets are read in your browser; only the requirements you import are saved. See the privacy statement.

What does it cost?

Start as a guest with up to 25 requirements, no account needed. Sign in for free for 100 requirements in one project. Solo is €9.95 a month for one editor without limits; Team is €24.95 a month for 3 editors, plus €7.95 per extra editor. Prices include VAT. See pricing.

Can I get my requirements out again?

Yes. Export a project to Excel, Word, PDF or CSV at any time, with IDs, levels and trace links.
